Martin Eakes

Biography

Martin Eakes is the Chief Executive Officer of the Center for Responsible Lending. Eakes founded CRL in 2002 as the lobbying arm of the billion-dollar “Self-Help” financial network, which he also founded. His relationship with CRL’s funders, controversial subprime billionaires Herb and Marion Sandler, has sparked widespread criticism. Eakes has faced accusations in some media reports of dropping his opposition to prepayment penalties on subprime mortgages under pressure from the Sandlers. (Eakes has since denied those allegations.)

Martin Eakes is a graduate of Yale University and the Woodrow Wilson School of International and Public Affairs.
