Brian Backstrom

Biography

Brian Backstrom is Vice President of the Foundation for Education Reform & Accountability. Before joining FERA, he was Vice President of the Empire Foundation for Policy Research, Manager of Regulatory Policy & Operations in the New York Governor’s Office of Regulatory Reform, and Director of Research for the New York State Legislative Commission on Public-Private Cooperation. Mr. Backstrom’s focus on charter schools and school choice led him to serve as CEO of the A Brighter Choice Scholarships program in the Capital District; he is a member of the board of trustees of the New York Charter School Resource Center. Originally from Minnesota, Mr. Backstrom received a B.A. in Political Science and a M.S. in Public Policy Analysis from the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.
