Thomas O. Melia

Biography

In May 2005, Thomas O. Melia became the Deputy Executive Director of Freedom House. Prior to this post, Melia was the Director of Research at the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy, and a professor in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown.

Melia worked for more than a decade at the National Democratic Institute, serving as program director for various African nations, as program manager of the Middle East and of Central and Eastern Europe, and then (from 1998 to 2001) as Vice President for Programs. Melia has an M.A. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.
