Sean Faircloth
Biography
Sean Faircloth is a Maine state representative whose favorite constituency seems to be food cops. Faircloth returned to speak at the 2004 Public Health Advocacy Institute conference, after stepping up to the podium at the 2003 confab, which was "intended to encourage and support litigation against the restaurant industry."Faircloth gets high praise from leading nutrition nags. Marion Nestle has said "I am already referring to Rep. Faircloth's work in my writing and presentations." Twinkie-tax creator Kelly Brownell has lauded Faircloth's proposals as "among the most innovative of the country."
Those legislative efforts included expanding bans on snacks in school vending machines, and an attempt to impose mandatory nutritional labeling on restaurant menus. That effort was inspired and supported by the food puritans at the Center for Science in the Public Interest, whose Margo Wootan even spoke at a Faircloth press conference.
With those staunch food-cop credentials, it may come as a surprise that Faircloth's favorite meal is a "double cheeseburger, fries and a coke." How does Faircloth stay fit? According to one Maine columnist, "he doesn't eat it every day and he's also a runner."
