Aviva Must
Biography
Obesity researcher Aviva Must, an associate professor at Tufts University, provided the "research backdrop" for the 2003 Public Health Advocacy Institute (PHAI) "Legal Approaches to the Obesity Epidemic" conference, which was "intended to encourage and support litigation against the food industry."Must has co-authored three obesity papers with her doctoral advisor and leading obesity warrior William Dietz. Two of those papers were co-authored with Graham Colditz, the author of a famous but deeply flawed study that erroneously concluded obesity costs the U.S. economy $117 billion each year. Another of Must's co-authors is Stephen Gortmaker, who co-wrote an anti-soda study that first gained scaremonger David Ludwig notoriety.
According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest's online "Integrity in Science" database, one of Must's obesity studies was funded by Roche Laboratories, a pharmaceutical company looking to cash in on obesity hype generated by researchers like Must.
