Jeffrey Luers

Biography

Jeff “Free” Luers, a self-described anarchist and freedom fighter on behalf of the oppressed (which includes “Mother Earth“), gravitated towards radical environmentalism at an early age. At 22, Luers set fire to three vehicles at a Chevrolet dealership with the help of a companion, Craig “Critter” Marshall. The pair also attempted to ignite a gasoline tanker.

Convicted of these crimes in 2000, Luers is presently serving a 22-year sentence in an Oregon State Penitentiary -- making him easily the most ironically-nicknamed activist on the eco-fringe. He advises fellow radicals to follow in his footsteps in Earth First! Journal articles, but helpfully suggests: “Don’t get caught.”
